Sunflower

Whenever I bike the Southern Walnut Creek Hike & Bike trail in Austin, I know that besides tranquility, I can often count on beautiful scenery, whether it’s wildlife and/or wildflowers. If you ride the entire trail, you will cover about 24 miles (38.5 km) of a nicely paved trail that offers a variety of terrain and curves, including a half-mile hill that will test your stamina.

In one of my rides, I even had a baby deer run across the biking trail. I didn’t see its mother, but I’m sure it was likely around. Although most wildflowers are gone by now, one can still see a few sunflowers.

Even though I had my camera with me, I thought my Samsung cell phone would be better suited for the shots here, as I had in mind using a special camera feature the phone app offers: the zoom effect, as seen in the first shot. The level of detail the phone camera provided was more than I’d anticipated.

That is the story behind the shots. If you liked this post, you may also be interested in others featuring Austin, Cellpic Sunday, FlowerHour, Southern Walnut Creek, Sunflower, Texas, and Wildflowers. Until the next time, keep clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.

This week I’m double-dipping. This post is for John’s Cellpic Sunday and Terri’s Flower Hour #5.

There is a zoom effect option on the Samsung Galaxy phone… so lovely! But probably on the latest models, not on my S8+, though 🙂 The sunflower photos are stupendous! Also… I still do not seem to receive throughbrazilianeyes.com posts in my Reader, uf, that is so odd.

Thanks for the feedback. Those photos were in fack from a previous Galaxy phone. My current S23 does not have that option. I bet there are apps in the store that can create the effect. About the posts, I also have problems with WP delivering some posts to my mailbox.

  3. Egidio I am commenting here as for some reason I am not seeing your Lens-Artists post in any of my feeds, including your site reader feed. I hope I can find where I can comment, its a great theme for this week!

Pam, many thanks for trying. I don’t know why WP sometimes creates these glitches. I appreciate the feedback.

These are beautiful Egidio, I would love to photograph sunflowers. I’m trying to grow them again, hopefully I will have more luck this summer.

Thank you, Pam. I wish the new app had the same effect. I can’t see it.

Thanks, Hammad. The current phone does not offer that feature. I’m sure there are other apps out there with it.

  7. Egidio, a refreshing read — nature, motion, and moments perfectly captured. Beautiful blend of adventure and artistry! Love the technique. I am not aware of this filter in the mobile.

In addition to the regular sunflowers, some Maximilian sunflowers are still doing their thing in and around Austin.

They can’t figure it’s fall. The weather has been crazy.

My big western trip last month meant that I missed much of our peak fall flowering season this year, but since returning I’m happy to have still been able to find fall wildflowers like the Maximilians, plus goldenrod, palafoxia, Liatris, goldeneye, prairie agalinis, and snow-on-the-prairie.

The sunflowers we have now are the Maximilian sunflowers (a bit smaller). Thanks.

I haven’t tried that effect yet. I’m going to give it a try, next time I’m out.

I’m not sure the effect is still available on the regular camera.

I don’t know if they still have that app to create the zoom.

The flower’s beautiful, and I enjoyed the view of the bracts. I was surprised by my visceral reaction to the zoomed background; it actually made me feel a little woozy. While I appreciate the artistry, I couldn’t look at the image very long. Strange!

LOL This reminds me of those warnings we now see in TV shows about light sequences, etc.

Thanks, Terri. We are in a usual pattern of some cool days followed by hot days. Wildflowers are likely all confused.
