Lens-Artists Challenge #373: Looking Back at LAC #31: Landscapes

Morning on the Chisos

I am relatively new to the Lens-Artists challenges. I discovered the group in 2023 and served as a guest host in September of that year. I officially joined the team in January 2024. So, when we began the Looking Back series, I was excited about the prospect of revisiting some previous challenges I had missed. Today, with my first Looking Back feature, I am revisiting February 2, 2019. Amy (of The World Is a Book) did a beautiful post featuring some incredible landscape photos. Please check out her post and photos here.

Landscape photography needs no introduction. Mountains, valleys, canyons, beaches, forests, rivers, and waterfalls are just a few common examples. People have been photographing landscapes using long exposures, at the golden hour, in monochrome, and now even using drone photography.

I don’t need to provide you with landscape examples, I know. However, here are a few topics that might inspire you to share your own landscape images. Perhaps a seascape.

Seascape Symphony

Or a high-key edit.

Lacey Elegance

Maybe you like intimate landscapes and scenes.

Dreamscape Bloom

There is also a minimalist landscape.

Sandwave

Or, who knows, even a sunset in your own backyard.

A Touch of Fall

Whatever landscape scene you choose, I would love to see your examples. Vast scenes, intimate landscapes, cloudscapes, and nightscapes are all fair game. It was challenging to limit the number of photos I wanted to include here. That is why we call it a challenge, right? Can you select only a few of your best landscape photographs? Please choose no more than six images for your post. Don’t forget to use the “lens-artists” hashtag so everyone can find your post more easily.

Thanks for your responses to Tina’s Ephemeral challenge. There was a great deal of variety and some beautiful images from all of you. Next week, it’s John’s turn to give us a new challenge. It will go live at noon EST in the USA. Tune in to find out more about the challenge then. Please see this page to learn more about the Lens-Artists Challenge and its history.

That is the story behind the shots. If you liked this post, you may also be interested in others featuring Big Bend NP, Brazil, Chisos Mountains, Fortaleza, Landscapes, Lens-Artists, Sunset, Teravista, and Texas.  Until the next time, keep clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.

I love the beautiful variety of your gallery, Egídio! The images are gorgeous and creative captions like ‘seascape symphony’ add an extra poetic touch to them. The ‘Sandwave’ makes me long for the vast desert even more. What sweet melancholy! –

The images are wonderful and if I were to pick a favorite it would be these two Morning on the Chisos, and the sand wave. That is not to say the others are less worth mentioning. Now I will have to look into my archives trying to match these.

The Chisos Mountains are an asset to have in a mostly mountainless state (other exceptions being the Guadalupe, Davis Mountains, and Franklin Mountains—all in far west Texas, of course.

The Chisos are truly special. They are the only mountain range entirely contained in a national park. If only the drive were not so far… So, the Davis Mtns help satisfy my mountain cravings in about a six-hour drive from here.

Oh no, I need to apologise 😕 I read the first part of your post yesterday, loved the theme and started work on a gallery of favourite landscapes in response. I published it this morning, then came back to see the rest of your images and share a link to mine. Only now do I see that you wanted us to limit our selection to just six images. You should know by now that I tend to go a bit over the top, so you won’t be surprised to see 17 in my gallery! But do please feel free to look only at the first six: https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/gallery-looking-back-at-landscapes/

I loved your own more measured selection, especially ‘Morning on the Chisos’ and ‘Sandwave’ 🙂
