Lens-Artists Challenge #341 – Personal Favorites

Drummond’s Wild Petunia

Now and then, I change a folder’s content with images that I use as background desktop images. Generally, I rotate photos from recent trips. More recently, I have been using photos I featured in presentations given to groups around our area. Just as I saw Tina’s challenge, I was beginning to select new photos for my desktop wallpaper folder. Tina points out we all “have thousands of images” in our collection(s), and it is not an easy task to pick “a small number of favorites.” This week’s “challenge is to choose no more than 5 images as your all-time personal favorites.” Well, presently, these are my all-time favorites — for now! Be sure to check out Tina’s post and see her favorites.

The current theme of my desktop wallpaper is spring flowers. In particular, I selected five images named after Scottish naturalist Thomas Drummond. He spent a few years in Texas starting in the spring of 1833. His research produced a collection of 750 species of plants and 150 specimens of birds. Several of those flowers are now named after him. If you are in Australia, you may also have flowers named after another Drummond: James Drummond, Thomas’s brother, who did similar work in Australia.

I opened with Drummond’s Wild Petunia. Next is Drummond’s Phlox.

Drummond’s Phlox

The following two flowers are tiny, but their beauty is unparalleled.

Drummond’s Onion
Drummond’s Skullcap

In closing, I share the liveliness and cheerfulness Drummond’s Asters bring to my eyes every time I see them. They tend to spread along trails and stand out among their green surroundings. With my desktop images rotating with blooming wildflowers, I am ready to embrace spring.

Drummond’s Aster

Ritva’s challenge last week was a phenomenal exercise for me. I went outside my comfort zone. I loved seeing your images for that challenge, too. I will now catch up with what you have posted for Tina’s challenge so far. I am ready to see your personal favorites. Don’t forget to use the “lens-artists” hashtag when creating your post so we can easily find it in the Reader.

On Saturday, I will lead a new challenge. It will go live at noon EST in the USA. Tune in to find out more about the challenge then. Please see this page to learn more about the Lens-Artists Challenge and its history.

Those are the stories behind the shots. If you liked these photos, you might also be interested in other posts featuring Bee, FOTD, Lens-Artists, Texas, Wildflowers, and Wildlife. Until the next time, keep clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.

And now that I’ve seen your post Egidio, I too am ready for spring! A wonderful set , your bee is so clearly loving the flower, and the image on the left of that one is glorious, as is your closing image. What a wonderful approach to desk-topping!!

Just awesome Egidio! Yes, you do have a difficult time choosing favorites. I love the bee getting lost in the flower.

What a beautiful selection for Tina’s challenge this week.
My personal favourite out of your 5 is the Drummond’s Onion. I love the way the background echoes the flow of the flower buds(?) from lower left to upper right. Accidental or by choice it’s almost like the wind made the background especially for your flower blooms.

A clever way to narrow down your choices to such beautiful flower shots! That onion flower is exquisite 🙂

Thanks, Sarah. In all challenges, I often feel I have too many choices. I have to narrow down the number of photos in each post. Those onion flowers are so small. Each bulb is about the size of a pinky finger nail.

All your flowers say something about spring, which is coming up, although not as fast as I was hoping. I particularly like your aster image, the colours are interesting and unexpected.
