Lens-Artists Challenge #362: Sports, Sporting Events and Fun Games

Lone Star Le Mans

My eyes could not believe it when I saw this week’s challenge. Beth (of Wandering Dawgs) picked Sports, Sporting Events, and Fun Games. Check out her post and photos to see what she has in store. Here’s my take on this challenge.

The FIA’s World Endurance Championship (WEC) is one of those thrilling races that have excited crowds worldwide. The Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, has held the event for several years in a row. This year, it will take place on September 5-7, 2025. If you are not familiar with it, this is one of the events as part of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France. The FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) is the same organization that governs Formula 1 races. Like Formula 1, WEC races take place worldwide. Presently, there are races in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

The 6 Hours of Austin (Lone Star Le Mans) takes place over both day and night. Generally, the start of the race is late afternoon. The shots here are from a previous year. No matter what the weather, rain or shine, the races go on.

I hope you’ll be inspired to showcase your Sports, Sporting Events, and Fun Games photos. Don’t forget to use the “lens-artists” hashtag when creating your post so we can easily find it in the Reader.

Next week, Anne returns with a new challenge. It will go live at noon EST in the USA. Tune in to find out more about the challenge then. Please see this page to learn more about the Lens-Artists Challenge and its history.

That is the story behind the shots. If you liked this post, you may also be interested in others featuring Austin, Circuit of the Americas, COTA, Lens-Artists, Lone Star Le Mans, Sports, Texas, and Texas Le Mans. Until the next time, keep clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.

Egídio, I like how you caught the mood of the day, moving between rain and shine — it gave me a real sense of being there. I’ve always loved motorsports for that mix of human and machine at the edge, but the one event I went to didn’t have the same spark yours seemed to.

Thanks for your comment. This year’s race is this weekend. I’m not going. I just got back from vacation and have too much on my plate. The photo set I featured was the first year they had the Lone Star Le Mans. It was exciting.

Thank you so much, Amy. I may just have to buy tickets for this year’s event. It’s this weekend.

You like car races – one can tell. You can tell they are all going fast!My favourite is the second one, the one you photographed from the back.

I cannot help but loving your photos here – they are amazing! You master things moving too – and landscapes and flowers, and – is there something that you haven’t tried before? Totally enjoyed every moment here.

You are so kind, Ann-Christine. There is one thing I have not tried: astrophotography. I just don’t feel any vibes for photographing the Milky Way and similar things.

  5. I can see your love for the sport, that is the thing. Great shots.

Some great action shots, Egidio! My favorite is the night shot using a slower shutter speed to blur the cars yet keeping the sun stars in the lights!

I should have known you’d feature racing Egidio – you have definitely mastered the art of photographing it! Such a difficult challenge and yet you’ve become quite the artist with it. Must admit, never my cup of tea but I know how tough it is to photograph making your post truly special!

Egidio, I can feel the excitement of the race through your images. The night image of the track is fantastic. You must have been high up in the stands to get that first shot. I’ve only been to NASCAR races and they have a rain delay if it rains.

Beth, I’m happy you felt that way. I was really high, just about 10 rows from the top. That was one reason I chose that seat was that I could get a wider angle without the fence around the track. I went to a NASCAR race one year, but haven’t gone back. They come to COTA every year now.
