Pretty in Pink

A visit to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is always rewarding any time of the year. I can always find something blooming there. The first two images here are of Purple Coneflowers (Echinacea purpurea). I captured them earlier this month during one of my volunteering days there.

This next set was also captured at the Wildflower Center on another visit. These are Pyramid Bush (Melochia pyramidata) flowers. In the springtime, these flowers are pollinator’s magnets.

The last set is Rose Pavonia (Pavonia lasiopetala). They are also known as Rock Rose. Unlike the previous flowers, I photographed those right here in our courtyard.

This post is my entry for Terri’s Sunday Stills Monthly Color Challenge Shades of #Pink in the Great Outdoors. You should check out her post, as she covers more than wildflowers in her beautiful gallery.

That is the story behind the shots. “Pretty in Pink” is just the right title for this attractive theme-and-variations photo essay. I’ve also photographed Echinacea at the Wildflower Center (hardly surprising), and like you we have some rock rose plants in our yard, where they’ve been going great guns for the past week.

The name Melochia pyramidata seemed familiar, although I didn’t immediately recognize the flower. I did a search of my posts, and discovered I once found it on the Big Tree Trail at the San Bernard Wildlife Refuge. Your portrait is lovely. Thanks for reminding me that it might be more common here than I’ve realized.
