Fall Foliage at Red Bud Isle

Lens-Artists Challenge #368: Looking Back to Lens-Artists Challenge #106: Autumn

Entry gate at damn spill with fall colors

Those of us in the Northern Hemisphere are beginning to experience the beauty that fall colors bring. However, if you live in Texas, the colors are barely there. There are still days when summer lingers on.

When John picked a previous challenge to revisit, Lens-Artists Challenge #106: Autumn, I was excited. John wrote: “Less than two weeks ago, summer slipped away, and autumn is upon us in the northern hemisphere.” Please check out his post and amazing photos

Yellow and orange fall colors

Texas autumn is hit and miss. Some years, we may find brilliant colors. That was the case of 2023. I visited Red Bud Isle park, close to downtown Austin, Texas. I had heard about and seen a couple of photos from the area showing fall foliage. I did the short hike around the island and was captivated by the display of colors in the cypress trees. It was a partly cloudy day on Thanksgiving week, and there were occasional bursts of sunlight showcasing intense yellows, oranges, reds, and greens.

Reflection of fall foliage

I was very satisfied with what I saw in the park. However, when I was driving in, I noticed that the area across from the dam spill area was even more colorful. Since there was only a narrow bridge in the area, I could not get down to the water level. Walking around the area, I noticed there was a locked gate across from the park entrance. That is the first photo in this post. Although I could not enter the locked area, I was able to walk around and admire even more intense fall foliage. To the right and left of that bridge, there were a couple of easy access points to lead me closer to the water level. That is what you see in the other two photos here. Will we have another colorful year in 2025? Well, let’s first get over the 90-degree (> 30 ºC) temperatures.

I traveled to so many amazing places last week when you responded to Joanne Mason’s challenge. I know I can’t travel to those locations, but your beautiful photos took me there. This week, John is revisiting a previous Lens-Artists challenge: Autumn. It’s been amazing already to see the responses that have come up. When you add your post, please don’t forget to use the “lens-artists” hashtag so we can easily find your post in the Reader.

Next week, Ann-Christine returns with a new challenge. It will go live at noon EST in the USA. Tune in to find out more about the challenge then. Please see this page to learn more about the Lens-Artists Challenge and its history.

That is the story behind the shots. If you liked this post, you may also be interested in others featuring Austin, Cityscapes, Fall Foliage, Landscapes, Lens-Artists, Parks, Red Bud Isle, and Texas. Until the next time, keep clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.

What maximally colorful takes of the foliage at Red Bud Isle. Austin can show good fall foliage when it wants to.

As the saying goes, those were the days! I keep hoping we’ll see another beautiful display, but probably not this year.

Thank you, Rupali. Those photos were from three years ago. Our fall happens late, generally in late November or early December. I’m looking forward to seeing if we will have dramatic colors such as those.

Beautiful colors Egidio – surprising for me to realize Texas gets that much autumn beauty. Your post made me VERY envious!! Especially since I think you don’t really get much of a winter. In any case the images are glorious.

Thanks, Tina. Fall colors in Texas are hit and miss. We have pockets of bright colors in a few areas in Central Texas. We’ll see if it happens this year. Thanks for your feedback.

Colors are just starting here, but some trees seem to be dropping leaves early.
