Winter Colorless Moments

On February 1, 2023, the city of Austin was hit again with a powerful ice storm. It was not as severe as the February 2021 Snowmaggedon, but the ice accumulation caused significant damage throughout the city. In our old home, we had several tree branches break, but no other damage occurred to us. These are three photos I captured during that day. What is worth noting here is that I did not perform any editing on these color photos except for noise removal and some sharpening. The colorless images are natural monochromes.

That is the story behind the shots. If you liked this post, you might also be interested in others featuring Abstracts, Austin, Monochrome, Monochrome Madness, and Texas. Until the next time, keep clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.

They look amazing Egidio, I only found out what an ice storm was about 10 years ago. We don’t get them.

It’s more common in central Texas than we care for. The Austin area does not get much snow, but we do get a lot of freezing rain and occasional ice. Thanks for your feedback.

Great captures. Very beautiful. Austin is lovely and treacherous during an ice storm. I remember the many car pile ups that happened each icy day.

Thanks, Rebecca. That continues every time there’s ice on the streets. Texans normally do not know how to drive in those conditions.

I would forget that when we lived there. Evan would recommend I not drive even though I grew up with winter conditions, because the Texans would drive too fast and skid into ditches and each other.

Thanks so much, Amy. We’ve been having some severe weather the last couple of months. Here at the house, we had one instance of golf-sized hail, but, luckily, no damage. In central Austin, a couple of weeks ago, there was much bigger hail and damage.

Beautiful icicles – not something you see to often in Texas I suspect?

Sarah, it seldom gets that bad. Luckily, that year was the last bad winter weather we had. It’s gotten to freezing temps and icy roads, but mostly overnight only. Thanks.

I'd love hearing back from you. Let me know if you have any questions or something is not working on the site.
