Lens-Artists Challenge #363: Virtual Scavenger Hunt

Full-Throttle Scavenger Hunt

Nothing like returning from vacation and hitting the ground running — or racing. Anne’s Lens-Artists challenge asks us to conduct a virtual scavenger hunt in our archives. Her challenge is fantastic and gives us plenty of choices. Please check her post for beautiful photos and excellent suggestions for your own virtual scavenger hunt.

Besides nature photography, motorsports is another area that fascinates me. So, I immediately thought of the racing helmets I had photographed at various races at the Circuit of the Americas, including Formula 1, Lone Star Le Mans, and IMSA events. I hope I understood the gist of the challenge. Here are some items with patterns, designs, green eyes (or visors), circular shapes, soft or smooth textures, and a shiny finish.

The next pair is very special. It includes a replica of the helmet that the greatest Brazilian Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna used. The other helmet was used by Finnish driver Kimi Räikkönen when he was with Ferrari.

Kimi Räikkönen’s Ferrari helmet

In closing, I could not resist including my own bike helmet. Look at that mesh, patterns, and textures.

I am thankful to Anne for this exciting challenge. I never thought I’d see the day I’d publish these images. This makes two posts in a row where I feature a sports topic. When you respond to Anne’s virtual scavenger hunt, don’t forget to use the “lens-artists” hashtag so we can easily find your post in the Reader.

Next week, Ritva returns with a new challenge. It will go live at noon EST in the USA. Tune in to find out more about the challenge then. Please see this page to learn more about the Lens-Artists Challenge and its history.

That is the story behind the shots. If you liked this post, you may also be interested in others featuring AustinCircuit of the AmericasCOTALens-ArtistsSports, and Texas. Until the next time, keep clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.

I liked how you made the colourful helmets the focus.

I’ve followed F1 for decades but always as a Lewis fan first, and his move to Ferrari is the only reason I can now call myself part of the Tifosi. Seeing him in red after all those seasons at Mercedes still feels strange, but also pretty thrilling — like we’re watching a whole new chapter unfold. I’ve already caught myself shouting Forza Ferrari at the TV. 😁 🏎️

Do you think the Ferrari environment will give him a different kind of spark than AMG ever did?

Thanks for the feedback, Khürt. I like to make my posts about one topic most of the time.

I’m not sure what will happen with Lewis/Ferrari. It still feels out of place. I’m looking forward to the USGP in October. I go to all of them since it’s right here in Austin. There are always lots of Lewis fans around my seat. It’ll be interesting to see them in a different shirt.

You guys so many nice races. When the Circuit of the Americas first opened, they had an Australian Muscle Cars race.

That would have been a good race to see. I wonder which era of Australian cars were there?

Unfortunately, I don’t have that info.

  18. Wonderful selection Egidio! The racing helmets add both history and character, and including your own bike helmet ties it together nicely with personal flair.
