Waco Mammoth NM

Waco Mammoth NM— One of the more recent additions to the National Park Service, the Waco Mammoth National Monument was established on July 10, 2015, by President Barack Obama. As stated in the park’s website, “this paleontological site represents the nation’s only recorded discovery of a nursery herd of Columbian mammoths.” Furthermore, what sets this park aside from others is that visitors can see “in situ” fossils exactly as they were found. There are female mammoths, a bull mammoth, and a camel all dating back to approximately 67,000 years ago. The park is small (about 100 acres) and can easily be seen in half a day. There are guided tours throughout the day.
