The Window

The Window— An iconic shot at Big Bend National Park, the Window offers breathtaking views whether you actually hike the short, easy trail or stay at the Basin and wait for nature to do its wonders. If you opt for the Window View Trail, it’s only 0.3 miles round trip on a paved, wheelchair accessible trail right at the Chisos Basin. There are even benches along the trail to allow a visitor to sit and enjoy stunning sunsets, such as the one we got in January 2008. On the other hand, if you take the Window Trail, you will hike a 5.6 mile round trip going through Oak Creek Canyon until you reach the pour-off at the Window. The trail is also popular with bears, so be careful and watchful not to surprise them.
