The Tiny Grasp: Paws-itively Adorable!

Breakfast of Champions

So, this post began as a focus on human hands. Quickly, I decided to focus on nature, my preferred subject in photography. I recalled the many squirrels I have seen through the years and how they cleverly did things with their hands. They are particularly persistent and intelligent when trying to get to bird feeders. I have finally found bird feeders they can’t get in.

Lunch on the Go

No matter how much they have tried, they have never gotten food from that feeder. Humans 1 X 0 Squirrels!

Never Give Up!

Did you know those tiny hands are very versatile? They can be used for foraging, eating, climbing, balancing, building nests, grooming, and digging. If the internet is trusted, squirrels’ hands can also communicate with other squirrels to alert them about food, dangers, and social status.

That is the story behind the shot. If you liked this photo, you might also be interested in other posts featuring Austin, Monochrome, Monochrome Madness, Squirrel, Texas, and Wildlife. Until the next time, keep clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.

I’m the same way, Kathleen. I often put some seeds for the squirrels since they can’t get to the feeders I have.

I was amazed to learn how smart these little guys are…and agile! Great photos. I really like that last one. It couldn’t have been easy as quick as they move.

Cara, thanks for the feedback. You are so right about how agile they are. That last photo was actually a still frame from a video I have of that squirrel attempting to get to the feeder.

I’ve never seen a feeder squirrels couldn’t access. What is this magic feeder? 😊

It’s a very long plastic feeder (a section is shown in the last photo). The bottom of the feeder closes with the squirrel’s weight if it ever gets to the openings. I got it at Lowe’s or Home Depot.

Are these delightful shots of grey squirrels? We tend to be a bit anti-grey in the UK, as they have all but eliminated our native red squirrels. But these photos are lovely, showcasing their grace and agility.

  15. Egidio, those squirrels may have lost the feeder battle, but let’s be honest—they’re probably engineering their next genius heist as we speak. Stay vigilant! 😆🐿️.
