The Beauty Within

Lens-Artists Challenge #322 – There Is a Crack in Everything

Light Dust

Death is pitch-dark, but colors are light.
To be a painter, one must work with rays of light.

Edvard Munch

In this week’s Lens-Artists Challenge, Ritva used Leonard Cohen’s saying, “Everything has a crack; that’s how the light gets in.” The quote “can be interpreted in many ways,” as Ritva shows us plenty of examples of how the light gets in. Please look at her post here.

Using my two previous posts as the basis for my response, I bring you the light within the Upper Antelope Canyon. Before we delve into the depths of this canyon, let me show you what the canyon looks like from the outside. This is a photo of the Lower Antelope Canyon at the end of the walk. You can see how narrow the openings are.

Cracked Earth

All subsequent photos were captured in the Upper Antelope Canyon. After seeing dozens of pictures of these canyons, I witnessed their beauty in person on a 2007 trip. The photos need no further introduction.

Last week, Anne’s challenge created ICM beauties. You rose to the task and shared your stunning ICM creations. I hope you had as much fun making them as I did looking at your amazing photos. This week, Ritva uses Cohen’s verses to guide us in a new challenge.

I am looking forward to seeing your interpretations. Don’t forget to use the “lens-artists” hashtag when responding to Ritva’s post so we can easily find it in the Reader.

Next week, it is my turn to present a new challenge. Tune in next Saturday at noon EDT in the USA. Please see this page to learn more about the Lens-Artists Challenge and its history.

Until then, keep on clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.

Such a perfect subject for the week Egidio! I’m dying to go there but to be honest I’m a bit leery about going underground 😢 The images are wonderful – especially the first and last. It looks to be fascinating and well worth the effort to get there. Amazing post.

Thank you, Tina. That canyon is on the ground and has no steps, if I recall it correctly. The Lower Antelope Canyon, on the hand, will have ladders to work with.

I’ve seen lots of photos from within Antelope Canyon, but this is the first time I’ve seen one from the top/outside. It looks amazing even from there. I’ll see what cracks I can find for the this challenge.
