Texas County Road 307

Brushstrokes of Spring

Spring in Texas is a time for backroad drives and wildflower beauty. Although wildflowers are everywhere, seeing them out on backroads is a special treat. In addition to the famous and crowded Willow City Loop, County Road 307 is another excellent place to see Texas wildflowers without the crowds. Although Bluebonnets can be seen just about anywhere, the scenery becomes more beautiful when you spot other colors, such as the Indian Paintbrush in the opening shot or the Texas Ragwort below.

Wild Beauty

County Road 307 is southeast of Llano, off Highway 71. From Austin, you take Highway 281 to 71 and continue towards Llano. County Road 307 can’t be missed. It is worth a quiet drive with several stops to appreciate the beauty and variety of wildflowers.

Texas Tapestry

A driver needs to be respectful of private property, though. Some of these narrow roads have no safe places to pull over.

Those are the stories behind the shots. I’ve always wanted to tour the wildflowers in Texas. A high school friends posts gorgeous photos from the spring show each year.

When we have plenty of rain in the fall, the spring wildflower show is great.

Is it spring there already? Or will it begin in Feb/March. We love Texas springs, thanks to Ladybird!

No, it’s only my wishful thinking. We’ve had a week of freezing weather and some rain. Spring helped me warm up. Thanks for writing.

A good series and lovely flowers.
I wondered why I wasn’t betting your posts in reader and finally found a bit in the manage subscriptions where I had to tick a box. That is the first time I have had to do that. There was another one from years ago in there too but they no longer blog.
I’ll be actually getting your posts now 😀

The Reader is temperamental to say the least. Things change at the drop of a hat. I’m glad you found that checkbox. Thanks for the comment.

Sarah, yes, that is a wise choice for a visit. Spring is early in Texas. Generally, by May, things begin to get warm fast. Thank you for the feedback on the flowers, too.
