In remote West Texas, the Nature Conservancy of Texas maintains Independence Creek Preserve (ICP), a 702-acre piece of land along the pristine Independence Creek. It is so unfortunate that the preserve is only open to campers twice a year, but it is understandable. To drive out to ICP also takes several hours from major cities. From Austin alone, it is about 5 hours. However, once you get there, the serenity of the place takes over. You are in constant amazement that there is such a place in West Texas. Although I am one who enjoys sleeping in, I was very excited to experience the sunrise at this location. As the sun began rising, I walked around the main area in the preserve to partake of its beauty.
