Shadows of Silence

Lower Cataract Lake

Something about reflections bring up a calming feeling to my eyes. To augment that sensation, if you remove the distracting colors, then the image invites the viewer to spend time and explore all of its nuances. I want to share some monochrome photos (with a dash of mauve) to illustrate that in this post for Monochrome Madness.

The first image is from Lower Cataract Lake in the Eagles Nest Wilderness in Colorado‘s White River National Forest. Also, in Colorado, I bring Nymph Lake in Rocky Mountain NP. This is one of the most peaceful lakes in that park.

Now, I come back to Texas with two images. The first is in the ultra-popular Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. You are looking at Enchanted Rock across the tranquil waters of Moss Lake.

The next image is even closer to home. It used to be my playground until July 2024. This is the pond in the Copperfield Nature Trail. This trail was my go-to place whenever I bought a new lens or camera or wanted to experiment with new ideas. I’m sure you have a place similar to mine that you use for the same purpose.

Finally, I take you to my hometown of Fortaleza in northeast Brazil. We generally associate reflections with water. Well, this is the glass wall at the Iguatemi Shopping Center. You see Christmas decorations and a portion of Fortaleza‘s skyline with a setting sun in the background. To give you a sense of dimension, I left a small bench in the lower right corner, as shown in the image.
