Leanne chose “stone” as the challenge theme for this week’s Monochrome Madness #9. I had to think this over because I had several choices to feature here, including Inca stones and Big Bend National Park‘s stone artifacts found on the Chimneys Trail. Instead, I decided to go with these seven stone arch crosses found in the National Historic Landmark of El Santuario de Chimayó (The Shrine of Chimayó) in New Mexico.

This shrine [El Santuario de Chimayó], a National Historic Landmark, is famous for the story of its founding and as a contemporary pilgrimage site. It receives almost 300,000 visitors per year and has been called “no doubt the most important Catholic pilgrimage center in the United States.”
