Praça D. Pedro IV

— Walking around the city streets in Lisbon is one of the most fascinating things. Even if you have no purpose whatsoever, the historical lessons you relive are priceless. Not too far from where we were staying in Lisbon, when we were there in 2018, we found the D. Pedro IV Plaza. To Brazilians, he is known as D. Pedro I, the Liberator. Although he was born in Lisbon (Oct. 12, 1798 – Sep. 24, 1834), he spent part of his adult life in Brazil after his parents King Dom João VI of Portugal and Queen Carlota Joaquina were forced to move to Brazil when the French troops invaded Portugal in 1807. As D. Pedro IV, he also reigned briefly upon his return to Portugal. Around this square, there are several shops and restaurants. The traditional Portuguese art of using black and white stones to create intricate designs on the pavement are present on the square. You can see two instances of this art form in this post.
