— About 45 minutes from Austin, Pedernales Falls State Park is a great day trip destination. In addition to picnic areas, visitors can swim in the Pedernales River in a designated area. The park is also close to Johnson City (12.4 miles / 20 km), where former President Lyndon Johnson was born.
