Pecos River

Pecos River Bridge

The first time I drove on Highway 90 coming back from Big Bend National Park, I could not stop at this scenic location. Some repairs were being done on the bridge. Then, in 2012, on another trip back from Big Bend, everything fell into place, including the right time of the day, as the sun was setting on this iconic Texas river. I was with one of my camping buddies, and we could not pass the opportunity to go to the lookout point to admire this bridge and river.

The Pecos River originates in eastern New Mexico. It travels down some 926 miles (1,490 km) through New Mexico and Texas until emptying into the Rio Grande at the Amistad National Recreation Area. This shot, taken just outside Del Rio, is actually not very far from that location. The bridge is the highest highway bridge in Texas, and its highest point is at 275 ft (84 m).
