Monochrome Movement: Steps & Stairs

Archbishop’s Palace

Aletta (of NowatHome) was the guest host for Leanne’s Monochrome Madness #19 challenge. Aletta chose Steps and Stairs. I struggled to pick what I would share in this post because I had a lot of photos I wanted to use. In the end, though, I opted for brevity.

I opened with the stairs inside Lima’s Archbishop’s Palace in Peru. When I first saw these stairs, I was struck by the rich wood colors contrasting with the wall and carpet colors. Converting the image to monochrome allowed me to explore the various textures we see, namely marble, carpet, and wood.

Loretto Chappel

This puzzling engineering feat is the stairway leading to the choir chambers at the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The stairway did not have a supporting column when it was first built. A small metal bracket has been added to ensure the stairway remains solid.

The photo on the right is from Texas‘s Bob Bullock State History Museum. The magnificent stairway connects three floors of exhibitions. From the top floor, where I stood for this photo, one can see the intricate floor artwork celebrating the story of Texas and the people who helped make this state what it is.

Missión Concepción

This is a small stairway in the San Antonio National Historic Park‘s Missión Concepción. I love visiting this park both for its historical significance and architectural wonders.

If you ever hike Huayna Picchu, the mountain that appears in every Machu Picchu postcard, you will encounter the Inca’s Death Steps. The uneven steps were created to deter enemies from reaching the Temple of the Moon. There are no ropes or rails to assist those who use the steps. This hike is listed as one of the world’s most dangerous hikes.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing these stairs and steps. Until the next time, keep clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.

Amazing steps. While they’re all significant and worth a photo (or two), the second image of the spiral staircase is truly a beautiful sight. I think the monotone colour is quite unique and unusual.
    Thanks for sharing these, Egidio.
