McDonald Falls

McDonald Falls at Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park often gets me thinking of conservation and a clean Earth. Its streams, rivers, lakes, and waterfalls have a typical glacier color, making everything look pristine. Although the park’s glaciers are melting fast, there are still several locations where the park is exuberant and overwhelmingly beautiful.

The Johns Lake Trail is a short and easy hike along McDonald Creek just before it empties into McDonald Lake. Although the Johns Lake Loop trail is not a dramatic hike, it goes through a dense forest of aromatic hemlock, larch, and Douglas fir, giving it a unique atmosphere. The loop also takes you alongside McDonald Creek, where you can enjoy stunning views of McDonald Falls.

McDonald Falls

The turquoise waters of McDonald Creek are very inviting. A hiker cannot resist getting closer to the creek and falls. There are plenty of safe areas to do that. When you hear the roaring sounds of McDonald Falls, it is the right spot to stop and take a break. If you do not feel like hiking, you can always park along the Going-to-the-Sun road and go directly to the falls from the parking area.

The opening photo was edited for Leanne’s Monochrome Madness about Waterfalls Moving. I liked the snowy look of the trees created by the monochrome edit. If, however, you are curious about the color version of the same photo, just look below.

Get outside, and don’t forget your camera (or cell phone). Nature’s beauty is just a click away.

Great pics Egidio. Glacier is one of my all time favorite parks. I love the combination of mountains, glaciers, animals, lakes, and wildflowers in summer.
