The Lower Antelope Canyon is much narrower than the Upper Antelope Canyon. It is also a more intense and longer hike. The entrance to the canyon requires the use of ladders, and some sections of the canyon are very tight. Experiencing the Lower Antelope Canyon also requires the visitor to use ladders to get from one point to another.
In Navajo, the Lower Antelope Canyon is known as “spiral rock arches.” If you go, you’ll be pleasantly surprised there are fewer people here. When we were there in 2007 (before the days of social media), our guide took us in — we were the only people then — and told us to stay as long as we wanted. I hear that things have changed substantially since then. He returned and left us there to enjoy the quiet and light coming from above. The mere fact there are fewer people here is more than enough for me to recommend the Lower Antelope Canyon — as long as you are not claustrophobic.

OMG, I LOVED the lower canyon, Egidio! Our Navajo guide played the flute for us. I was in a small group of 4 other young women, this was back in January. I must have a million images, LOL!

That does look stunning, and your photos capture the shapes and colours so well 🙂 I’d love to visit but that ‘ladder’ looks a bit daunting to me!
Egidio Leitao
Thanks, Sarah. I don’t recall how we climbed or went down that ladder. It does look so unsafe. In other areas of the canyon, there are regular ladders with handles.
