Iate Clube Beach

Hazy Afternoon

Céu, tão grande é o céu
E bandos de nuvens que passam ligeiras
Prá onde elas vão, ah, eu não sei, não sei.

(“Dindi,” by Antonio Carlos Jobim & Aloysio de Oliveira)

Those Portuguese lyrics from the Bossa Nova classic “Dindi” always come to my mind whenever I see beautiful skies from home. The song’s English version received lyrics by Ray Gilbert. He did a very good job of keeping a close resemblance to the original words: “Sky so vast is the sky / With faraway clouds just wandering by / Where do they go / Oh I don’t know.”

Sunsets along Beira Mar Avenue in Fortaleza, Brazil, are often breathtaking. Several locations along the seashore will be just as beautiful as any other. Whether you are close to the Ponte dos Ingleses or near the Iracema statue, a sunset will likely please you. This particular view was taken from the Iate Clube Beach. This place is a great location to go have a drink at the end of the day, eat a nice meal by the shore, and also attend outdoor live concerts with Brazilian artists.

That is the story behind the shot. Dindi is such a beautiful song. I’ve heard the upbeat versions but when I heard Tom Jobim’s version in Terra Brasilis, it really tugged at my heart.

    beautiful sunset photo! Mike
