Discover Fall Magic Around the Lady Bird Lake Trail

Auditorium Shores

Fall foliage comes late to the Lone Star State. Often, we will see fall foliage from mid-November to mid-December in Austin. Around mid-December, I went for a bike ride around the Lady Bird Lake. It is a popular trail for bikers and hikers, especially close to Auditorium Shores. Once you pass that area, the trail is not as crowded.

Biking Along the Boardwalk

Several beautiful views can be seen along the boardwalk. Officially named the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail (named after a former Austin mayor and his wife), the trail goes around Lady Bird Lake for an approximately 10-mile (16-km) loop. In any direction you go, you will have great views. Parking can be difficult on weekends. That is why I prefer to go there on weekdays. Biking is often peaceful along this trail. In addition to that, I can always see some wildlife and new building coming up in the Austin skyline.

Downtown

Behind these buildings in the photo above are well-known downtown buildings, such as the Google and Jenga buildings.

Wow. How it is fall there now? Reminds me of San Diego when the Liquid Amber trees change color about now. Gorgeous shot, Egidio!

Late Texas fall, peaceful trails, and the Austin skyline—perfect combo. Keep biking and snapping!

Thanks, my friend. Sometimes the biking is sacrificed for photography. 🙂 Or maybe I should say, sometimes it takes me longer to bike a trail because of the many stops I make.

Wonderful trail. And in some strange way enhanced by those city views. How good to have that immersive experience among trees with the city so near at hand.

Wow, Egidio, that opening photo is spectacular. The colors pop, and it’s got just the right amounts of shade and light. You picked a perfect day to ride the trail and capture the fall colors. That’s not “casting shade” on either of the other two photos, that skyline shot is a perfect mix of nature and cityscape.
For us in Fargo, we lost our colors before Thanksgiving, except white… we have plenty of white. >grin<

Your first photo feels truly magical with its wonderfully soft colors. In the next picture I like the contrast between the nature and the high-rise buildings that are reflected very nicely in the water.
It always feels exciting to be able to take part in places you have never visited yourself. Thanks for sharing Egidio!
