Deep Thoughts

Spanish sign

— I do not know about you, but whenever I am traveling, I often find myself reading and photographing signs on restaurant walls. Some of them can be clever, profound, and funny. Throughout the years, I have photographed many of those signs in some dining areas and restrooms. I am really happy to share some of those in this post. That takes me out of my usual nature photos for a lighter touch.

The first sign comes from a restaurant in Boquillas, Mexico. Whenever we go to Big Bend NP, we like to go across the border to visit that small village and eat delicious Mexican food. One can often find some clever signs in Spanish there. This one says:

In our America
All people are equal.
Love wins.
Black lives matter.
Immigrants and refugees are welcome.
Disabilities are respected.
Women own their bodies.
People and the planet have more value than money.
Diversity is celebrated.

This next sign I saw when we were in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. If you look carefully, you can see the alien symbol along with the others. That is so common in New Mexico. I like the inclusivity the sign shows.

The next two signs I saw at the Bison Cafe in Caprock Canyons State Park (Texas). Who would think about the combination of religion and hygiene in a restroom? I love the mention of “hopes & dreams” in that first sign.

This sign comes from another restaurant bathroom in Leakey, Texas. I found the sign in a restaurant near one of the state parks in that area. It is interesting to note the connection of toilets, guns, and hunting here. That is probably something with which the men in that area can really associate. That is prime hunting grounds.

In closing, I chose this sign I found in a restaurant in Port Aransas, Texas. As a popular beach town, Port Aransas sees its share of unruly kids throughout the year and, especially, in the summer. I wonder if that restaurant was trying to give parents a message.

Child-proof

I hope I have not offended anyone with these light-hearted signs. Believe me when I say it I had some X-rated and political signs that ended up being deleted from this post.

I am so glad that John offered this challenge for this week’s lens-artists’ challenge: Billboards and Signs.

Great job finding signs to use for the prompt. I find it funny how shop/restaurant owners get so creative with their signage for the bathrooms/restrooms. We have quite the variety where I live too, I rarely have my camera with me to take photos of them though. 🤣
