Butterfly

— In 2008 we had an adventurous vacation in the beautiful country of El Salvador. With a native friend preparing the itinerary for us, we were blessed with a most perfect vacation. Everything worked out well without a glitch. One of our stops was in the beautiful city of Apaneca. This shot was made in the gardens of the majestic Santa Leticia Hotel in Apaneca. Our stay there was like a fairy tale in a lush tropical forest with flowers, hummingbirds, and butterflies. Any time we ventured out to walk in the gardens, we would see butterflies and birds everywhere. Even from our chalet veranda, we could comfortably lie in a hammock and watch hummingbirds nearby. It was also in Apaneca where we did our first ziplining adventure. Capturing this butterfly photo reminded me of a quote from Nathaniel Hawthorne:

Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.
