Beyond the Blur with Zooming ICM

Lens-Artists Challenge #350: Zooming

The Lone Star

The featured image is one of the first images I captured using the zooming ICM technique. That was back in 2022. I really enjoyed the results I obtained. From time to time, it’s fun to get this effect in the camera instead of attempting a post-processing tweak. So, when I saw that Anne’s challenge this week was about zooming, I was thrilled to get new images for the challenge. With a little more knowledge about the technique and Anne’s detailed instructions and suggestions, I was prepared to try. Please visit her post to marvel at her examples.

The following three photos were captured this past week around our house. I wanted to try images zooming in as well as zooming out. I must also stress that, unlike the featured image, I did not use a tripod. The following images were all photographed handheld.

Wild Bergamot

One of the new plants in our courtyard is Wild Bergamot. It’s a type of bee balm in the mint family. I’ll make time to feature it in another post in the future.

For something completely new, I decided to take my camera along when I went to breakfast a couple of days ago. The Banana Nut pancake looked and tasted very yummy. I thought I’d try zooming out to see what I’d get. I guess having natural light (I was eating outside) and the white plates were the right complements for the image, don’t you think?

Banana Nut Pancake

For the final image, I just stepped out to our backyard to capture yesterday’s sunset.

I’m still enjoying seeing your humorous posts about Tina’s challenge last week. You gave us plenty to smile with those images and captions. With Anne’s zooming challenge this week, I’m prepared to see beauty through your eyes again. Don’t forget to use the “lens-artists” hashtag when creating your post so we can easily find it in the Reader.

Next week, Ritva returns for another challenge. It will go live at noon EST in the USA. Tune in to find out more about the challenge then. Please see this page to learn more about the Lens-Artists Challenge and its history.

That is the story behind the shots. If you liked this post, you might also be interested in others featuring more Abstracts, ICM, Landscapes, Lens-Artists, Sunset, Teravista, Texas, and Wildflowers. Until the next time, keep clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.

All recognizable in their own way, so I loved your images, Egidio. I’m not much for ICM so I may have been a little rude to Anne, though I didn’t realise until afterwards. I shouldn’t be such a stick in the mud and try some of these techniques myself. I’m glad that you did xx

Thanks, Jo. I wouldn’t worry about not doing a challenge. I know there are certain things in photography that I wouldn’t be able to submit a photo for. I don’t think you are being rude to Anne at all.

Egidio, these are all great. I would have never thought of using the technique for a sunset but I love the way your image turned out.

Beth, I wanted to explore different ideas I’d never tried before. The sunset was one of them. Thanks.

Very creative work! The sunset is beautiful and the pancakes a fun idea, but I love the bergamot most of all 😀

Thanks, Sarah. All of the photos were experiments with different topics. The bergamot was my way to explore complementary colors. The pancake was trying to enjoy food photography (which I don’t). The sunset was another experiment I’d never done. Thank you for the feedback.

André, thank you for this compliment. I specifically chose those flowers because of the complementary color contrast. I thought it could look very catchy, and I was happy with the result.

These are terrific Egidio. Must admit I haven’t tried zooming back in, very interesting! Loved the star and the bergamot especially. Had to laugh at the pancake? – made me wonder what the other diners thought!

I just had to think of something different I hadn’t tried before. I don’t like photographing food for starters. However, this challenge led me to that. I enjoyed the experiment. Thanks for the compliment.
