The Chisos Mountains are located entirely within the boundaries of Big Bend National Park, making it the only mountain range contained completely in a national park. One can actually see the entire range from some key outside-of-the-park locations. It is a beautiful sight rising above the Chihuahuan Desert. Although Emory Peak is the highest point at 7,825 ft (2,385 m), Casa Grande Peak dominates the Chisos Basin area. Casa Grande Peak is 7,325 ft (2,233 m). On one of our trips to the park in early January 2008, on a clear, crisp morning, we witnessed some beautiful late fall colors at Casa Grande and trails around the Basin.
