About 45 minutes from Austin, Pedernales Falls State Park is a great day-trip destination. In addition to picnic areas, visitors can swim in a designated area of the Pedernales River. The park is also close to Johnson City (12.4 miles / 20 km), where former President Lyndon Johnson was born.
This river and falls appear tranquil but don’t be fooled. Flash floods can and often happen at a moment’s notice. When that happens, all the rock beds you see above disappear under turbulent waters. If you look closely at the photo above, you can spot debris on a large boulder to the left of the tree on the right side of the image. That was left there from a previous flood.
The park offers 22 miles (35 km) of trails, not to mention the option to explore the riverbed as in the photo above. A visitor must be cautious because those rocks can be very slick.
Those are the stories behind the shots. If you liked these photos, you might also be interested in other posts featuring Landscapes, Parks, Pedernales Falls SP, Pedernales River, and Texas. Until the next time, keep clicking and capturing the beauty your eyes find.
