— Whenever I have a chance to revisit Lake Bastrop South Shore park, I try to take a hike or bike ride along the Swift trail. The trail is short, shaded, and offers incredible views around the lake. The presence of loblollies makes this park unique. In some areas it brings back images of the Bastrop State Park before the major fire of 2011. This park was not affected by that fire and still has a strong and vibrant loblolly forest. You can see these trees all over the park, including in the north-to-south trail. However, here at the Swift trail, your hike is way shorter and more scenic. Because of the pine needles covering the ground, you clearly get the sensation of walking on a velvety floor. Also, the sunlight that peaks through the tree tops adds a fairy tale mood to your walk.
