— As part of a December tradition with friends, we often rent a cabin or house somewhere in Central Texas to spend a few days exploring the area and just shooting the breeze. This year, we went back to one of Foxfire Cabins, just about a mile from Lost Maples SNA. For me this was the fifth time in one of their cabins, and I must say that the Main House is by far the best of those five rentals we’ve used. In the past we have also used state parks, such as the cabins at Garner SP. This house was very spacious with ample room to spare. Sitting on the backyard porch was very tranquil. That is the view you have above. The river just beyond the fence is the Sabinal. As part of the fun of being away, we hiked Lost Maples SNA, ate in Leakey and Utopia, and this year we did the scenic Three Twisted Sisters drive. This year the weather was very cold, but it was dry.
