Gorman Falls

Gorman Falls

— As many times as I have hiked to Gorman Falls in Colorado Bend State Park, never had I seen it as beautiful as in last December. Coupled with the recent torrential rains in previous months to December 2018, there was also fall foliage in the area. Leave it to Central Texas to display fall colors late! It is no wonder that Colorado Bend SP is often crowded on weekends. The trail to the falls is barely 3 miles (4.8 km) roundtrip through a rough and rocky terrain, but with hardly any elevation change — until you get to the falls. The park has put some cables to help visitors get down the steps to reach the viewing deck below next to the falls. The 70-foot (21-meter) cascading waterfall changes and grows through the years. That is why it is called a living waterfall. Always present in the falls will be travertine formations and lush vegetation.
