— When rafting or canoeing the Rio Grande in Big Bend NP, one has a couple of options depending on the river water volume. Of course, the Santa Elena Canyon rafting/canoeing trip is more famous. A second option is using the Colorado Canyon, as seen in the photo above. You get a different angle from the Rio Grande looking up to FM 170 (the River Road). Either option will be a superb trip along this river. Check with an area outfitter to see what is available. When we were in Big Bend NP in 2017, canoeing the Santa Elena Canyon was available. It was one of the most memorable moments in the park and one we had been looking forward to for a long time.
