Chimneys Trail

— Where in Texas is this view? This trail is one of those that is best taken in the winter, when temperatures are milder in west Texas. We did that hike eleven years ago. After having been to Big Bend National Park several times, we started to explore less popular trails. Everyone talks about and hikes the Window, South Rim, and Lost Mine, but the Chimneys trail is also a beautiful hike.  Because this is entirely open, you’ll be in the sun for the approximate 4.5-mile roundtrip hike. Carry enough water, of course, use sunscreen, and preferably hike this trail in the winter. It offers gorgeous views of the Chisos and Santa Elena Canyon as well as impressive geologic features (an arch) and native American rock art (see photos below).
