Apikuni Falls

— I don’t believe I’ll ever get tired of the beauty and diversity found at Glacier National Park. Apikuni Falls is located in the Many Glacier area. It is a short hike (about a couple of miles roundtrip). The trail is easy at the start, but after passing through a meadow and aspen grove, the trail climbs up 700 feet in half a mile. It is at this point that one starts seeing the falls. Apikuni Falls is about 300 feet in height. The name “Apikuni” comes from the Blackfoot Native American language, and it can be translated as far off white robe, spotted robe, or far-away robe. That is easily understood by looking at the waterfall, which does resemble a robe. The first tier of the fall drops from the top of the cliff and is featured on the main photo above. The second tier of the falls is more like a cascade. It is shown in the photo below. This particular hike was very rewarding for us. We did get into some rain coming down, but we were able to wait for the light rain to stop in the aspen grove area.
