Dissolved Clouds

Prismatic Wonder

This is how I would die
into the love I have for you:
As pieces of cloud
dissolve in sunlight.

― Rumi

When I went to see the Purple Martins (Progne subis) roosting in downtown Round Rock in August 2025, the skies put on an opening show before the main event. That is the story behind the shot. Isn’t it interesting how there are ‘seasonal’ skies as well as seasonal plants and such? When I saw your photo, I thought, “That’s a summer sky.” Then I went back to the text and sure enough: August. It’s quite beautiful. The colors are lovely, of course, but the variety in the cloud shapes is pleasing as well.

Thank you, Linda. You reaffirm the belief I have about skies and light. I somehow also sense when a new season is approaching by the light outside. Well, it’s scientific (the Earth’s rotation), but I find it more interesting to sense and see those things, just as you saw the sky. Thanks for your feedback.

  9. Welcome, Egidio.

  10. Stunning moment!
The sky clearly decided to perform before the birds did.
    A beautiful capture, Egidio.
    Merry Christmas ⛄ 🎁

Definitely gorgeous clouds. Did any purple martins appear in time for you to photograph them with those clouds?

I'd love hearing back from you. Let me know if you have any questions or something is not working on the site.
