Cypress Trees at the Frio River

Cypress at Frio River

— When my Frio River photo was selected as the February 2016 winner in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation Focus on the Wild statewide contest, I felt a strong need to return to Garner State Park and check out that beautiful setting. Since it was the 2016 Spring Break week, the park was full to capacity, but a quick short walk took me into the same area as that first photo from 2007. Things had changed, and I even believe that one of those cypress trees was gone and its stump was all I could see. Nevertheless, that place is still magical and like being in a fairy tale. A famous quote by Heraclitus came to mind: “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”
