Mendenhall Glacier

— Another flashback from our 2004 trip to Alaska. Mendenhall Glacier, located just a short drive outside of Juneau, Alaska’s capital, is approximately 13.6 miles (21.7 km) and is part of the Mendenhall Glacier Recreational Area. The glacier had several names until 1891, when it was named after Thomas Corwin Mendenhall. The glacier starts at the Juneau Icefield and ends here at Mendenhall Lake. Climate change is definitely affecting this glacier. Professors Cathy Connor and Roman Motyka, University of Alaska, expect the glacier to soon pull out of the lake.
